History

The Establishment of TAFF

TAFF (Turkish Armed Forces Foundation) was established as a result of the merger of the Army, Navy, and Air Force Strengthening Foundations, which were founded with donations from the Turkish public in the 1960s and 1970s to develop the defence systems and products of the Turkish Armed Forces based on modern technology. This merger was formalized by the TAFF Law No. 3388 on June 17, 1987, and the foundation began its activities on September 26, 1987.

Based on the decision of the TAFF Board of Trustees on January 24, 1992, to conduct fair services encompassing the defence industry under the management and responsibility of the TAFF General Directorate, the IDEF International Defence Industry Fairs have been organized biennially in odd-numbered years since 1993.

As of 2025, TAFF;

It has established a deep emotional bond with more than 420,000 donors.
It is a direct or indirect shareholder of 73 companies, including 6 subsidiaries and 9 affiliates, each undertaking significant roles in key areas of the Turkish defense industry.
It takes pride in having successfully managed and overseen 17 IDEF International Defense Industry Fairs between 1993 and 2025, and in directing and coordinating the preparations for the IDEF 2027 Fair.

IDEF moved to Istanbul.

IDEF has become one of the top three defence industry fairs in the world.

2025

IDEF was held in its new fairground with a new concept.
